Synopsis:

On July 28, 2008, the Grand Pier in Weston-super-Mare, Great Britain was burned to the ground by a devastating fire, plunging the small seaside town into grief. The historic seaside attraction had recently been purchased by Greek Cypriot brothers Kerry and Michelle Michael and was critical to the city's economy. This is the story of how the Greek Cypriot community in Weston-super-Mare gathered to support the Michael family in their determination to rebuild the dock, to make it bigger and better than ever! Could this magnificent building be rebuilt in its former splendor? This was the biggest question in the minds of the world. Will the Phoenix be reborn from its ashes?

On the 28th July 2008 the Grand Pier at Weston-super-Mare in Great Britain was utterly destroyed by a catastrophic fire tearing the heart out of the small seaside town. The historic building was crucial to the economy of the town and had only recently been purchased by Greek Cypriot siblings, Kerry and Michelle Michael. This is the story of how the Greek Cypriot community in Weston-super-Mare came together to support the Michaels in their determination to rebuild the Pier bigger and better than before! But the question on everybody's mind was. Could this magnificent building be rebuilt to it's former grandeur? Would a Phoenix rise from the ashes?

Director's/Biography Biography:

Anastasia Charalambous Barnfather is a director and writer. With her husband Keith Barnfather (producer/cameraman) they have the company Reeltime Pictures. He studied film directing and post-production at the University of the Arts in London and collaborated with Reeltime Pictures to expand the company's production platform. The film, The Phoenix - A Story from the Diaspora, is the first production undertaken by Anastasia for the company as a writer and director. It tells the dramatic story of the tragic destruction of the historic leisure dock at Weston-super-Mare in England and the reconstruction by its Greek Cypriot owners. Anastasia and Keith have almost completed two more TV series in Cyprus, the Forgotten Trains of Cyprus and a documentary about the renovations of the holy monastery of Apostle Andrew.

Anastasia Charalambous Barnfather is a director and writer and runs with her husband Keith Barnfather (Producer/Cameraman) the Reeltime Pictures company. She studied film direction and post-production at the University of the Arts, London, she joined Reeltime Pictures to broaden its production platform. Phoenix – A story from the Diaspora is the first production Anastasia has undertaken for the company as writer and director. It tells the dramatic story of the tragic destruction of the historic pleasure pier at Weston-super-Mare in England and the rebuilding by its Greek Cypriot owners. Anastasia and Keith are near completion on two further television series in Cyprus, The Forgotten Trains of Cyprus and a documentary about the renovations at the holy monastery of Apostolos Andreas.
