Summary:
Based on the life of the Czech healer Jan Mikolášek who dedicated his life to caring for patients using medicinal plants. Throughout the war and unrest of the 20th century he had to choose between his fame and conscience.

Agnieszka Holland was born in Warsaw and has directed and written over thirty films. She studied directing at FAMU, the Film and TV School of Performing Arts in Prague and began her professional life as an assistant director of Krysztof Zanussi and Andrzej Wajda, for whose films she wrote several screenplays. Her directorial debut Provincial Actors premiered and was honored by International Critics at the 1979 Cannes Film Festival.
She also has many episodes of famous TV series such as The Wire, The Killing, House of Cards and The First.
