Synopsis:

Courageous, funny and unique: this is Rocca. He is eleven years old and lives a rather special life. As her dad looks at her from above—since she's an astronaut on a mission in space—Rocca lives alone with her squirrel and goes to regular school for the first time in her life. Her carefree and unconventional lifestyle makes her stand out immediately among her classmates. She bravely treats class bullies, because first and foremost Rocca defends justice. That's why she becomes friends with the homeless Caspar and tries to help him. At the same time, she struggles with all her might to win her grandmother's heart.

Director's/Biography Biography:

Katja Benrath was born in 1979 in Erbach, Germany. In her youth she was greatly influenced by the theatre, so she pursued a career in this field by taking her first professional steps. She became a costume designer and collaborated with the pina bausch dance company. She then completed her studies in singing and acting in Vienna, where cinema entered her life. Her short films (Babydoll, No One Pukes In Heaven and Tilda) were screened successfully at many international festivals, winning several awards. During her postgraduate studies at The Hamburg Media School, she directed the films Where Have You Been, Secrecies and Watu Wote. The latter was her thesis and she was awarded many distinctions, including the Academy Award for Student Film and an Oscar nomination.
