Workshop of the 7th Chania International Film Festival

Cinema and school or cinema in schools?

Why so far has it not been possible to systematically and methodically introduce the teaching of the art of cinema in primary and secondary education despite the occasional remarkable and commendable efforts, and how can this situation be reversed?

How can documentary teaching in schools be organised?

The presentation of the experience and views of important instructors of audiovisual education and pedagogy will contribute to the fruitful dialogue between filmmakers and teachers, avoiding the sterile utterance of parallel and monotonous monologues for the promotion of each one's work.

Our aim is to create unified directions for the methodical and institutional integration of the art of cinema in school programs.

In the workshop organized by the 7^th Chania International Film Festival on Saturday, November 2, 2019, 10:00 – 15:00, at the Cultural Center of Chania, the following will present their experience and knowledge:

Stavros Grosdos

Teacher – former School Advisor in Primary Education, Author, Doctor of Audiovisual Literacy and Creative Writing in Education, at the Pedagogical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

Christos Karakepelis

Director, Professor of Directing at the School of Film and Television L. Stavrakos specializing in Documentary.

Angelos Kovotsos

Director, Film literacy trainer, collaborator of the Chania Film Festival (Cinemathimata), collaborator of Story Doc, prof. President of the Greek Documentary Association

Olga Kolokytha

Assistant Professor at the Department of Communication of the University of Vienna, Fellow of the European Commission for the preparation of the New European Agenda for Culture

Director of Story Doc, Organizer of Film Literacy Seminars for students and adults.

Despina Lampada

Historian, Cultural Management Consultant, collaborator of the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation for the development of content in the project Fest of Fests, for the promotion of Cinematic and Digital Literacy. He is also a partner of the National Centre for Audiovisual Media and Communication for the implementation of the National Repository of Audiovisual Archives.
