The Region of Crete – Regional Unit of Chania, the Cultural Center of Chania, the Chania Film Festival and the publications “Compass of the City”, have the honor to invite you to the presentation of the book

at the Cultural Center of Chania
The book will be presented by Katerina Varanaki, Philologist.
Excerpts will be read by Maria Patrelaki, Philologist and Nektarios Xanthoudakis, Educator.
A discussion with the book’s contributors will follow.

The letters from the Front are a direct and accurate source of the events that occur in the war, a direct record of the hardships that the soldiers go through, a spontaneous expression of their feelings, their mental state, their thoughts, their concerns, their beliefs and their values.
Irene Kalfaki from Chania handed us a … trunk letters of the 40s era. Letters of her family, to and from the Front, letters just before the war, during it, shortly after. Their content concerns one of the most important moments of the history of our Country, highlighting the ideals and values of people, the close ties of the wider family and the bonds of friendship. Their recording in the book is a minimum tribute to the era and its people.
