Film screenings, presentation of unpublished documents and photographs, a discussion of “friends” with well-known directors and two books in reissue.
Roviros Manthoulis is one of the most important chapters of cinema with a rich film work that exceeds 120 films. Today, while he is about to turn 93, he continues his creative journey, expanding his writing work.
His work is an important legacy for the new generations. For this reason, two film festivals in Greece, the Olympia International Film Festival for Children and Youth and the Chania Film Festival, with coordinated movements, proceeded to the re-publication of two of his hard-to-find works.
- The Olympia Festival released the book “Shadows on a white wall” that brings together the cinematic texts of R. Manthouli.
- The Festival of Chania – from the editions Compass of the City has re-published the two-volume autobiographical work “The World according to me” (https://archive.chaniafilmfestival.com/product/o-kosmos-kateme/)
On the occasion of these two editions, a tribute was decided, basically cinematic, but with important implications with audio, written and photographic documents. A different from the usual tribute entitled “Roviros Manthoulis, a third look” curated by Nikos Theodosiou.
The tribute is divided into 6 +1 sections:
A. THREE PLACES. Three of the documentaries of the early period in Greece, the only surviving, hard to find today: AKROPOLIS / THE GREATEST POWER / LEFKADA
B. THREE PERSONS. Faces of the Greek diaspora in Paris: MIMIKA KRANAKI / KLEMAN LEPIDIS / VASSILIS ALEXAKIS
C. THREE STATIONS. The classic films of Roviros Manthoulis: FACE WITH FACE / BIOI PARALLELS OF GENDER / BLUES WITH CLENCHED TEETH
D. IN PERSON. R. Manthoulis in front of the camera of other creators talks about his life and work.

The tribute will culminate in a meeting of friends in which the following will take part and talk about the honored director: Stavros Psyllakis, Angelos Kovotsos, Aris Bafaloukas and the directors of the Festivals: Olympia, Dimitris Spyrou and Chania, Matthaios Frantzeskakis. The discussion will be moderated by friend Deppy Vrettou, a radio producer at ERT. The meeting will be broadcast live online on April 3, 2021 at 6 p.m.
